Artist Biography: “This is maybe not your typical out of college or looking for a job type of artist biography. It has been some time since I have needed to type up one of these and as I reflected upon the task I had some thoughts I wanted to jot down. The last time I wrote one of these was for a show I had back in 2017…I was working at a coffee shop and had a few years prior worked in a gallery/studio and as an artist’s assistant. Working within art and for someone else’s art I became burnt out and never felt the energy to create my own things. When I began work at the coffee shop it fueled something within me and simply put I was able to start making more again…like really making…creating for myself and for others. That separation was key for me in a renewal of my own work. As the years have gone on my life and my work have shifted and become something new…something that at times has really made me grapple with the idea of my identity. This can be trying and it can also be very beautiful. My work becomes an expression of love toward my children when I write them love notes, paint their walls or draw on their clothes or bags…it has become a way for me to spend time with them as we draw or color…telling stories or talking of emotions as we go. With the help and support of my family, I have pursued stewarding/curating a little free library in front of our home and while sometimes it feels like this might be separate work from my art, I just see it as another means of expression and of having a way to share it with the community. No matter what my artist biography ends up looking like throughout the years, that is what I hope stays true throughout…that my work and my purpose stay within the realm of human relationships.”
