THE LION IN WINTER by James Goldman – Theatre Performance

Heartland Theatre Company opens THE LION IN WINTER, by James Goldman, on Thursday, November 7, with a Pay-What-You-Can Preview. Performances continue through November 23. The play is sponsored by Marilyn & Robert Sutherland and underwritten by The Drake Zimmerman Group.
The play is directed by John D. Poling and features Carolyn Kodes, Charles R. Brown, Sage Brown, Kyle Redmon, Zachary Manahan, Thomas Brady and Morgan McCauley.

ABOUT THE PLAY: Sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons – The Lion in Winter is a modern-day classic. Comedic in tone, yet dramatic in action, the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 1968, the film adaptation featured Katharine Hepburn and Peter O’Toole. [Mature Content]
Performances November 7,8,9 | 15,16 | 22,23 at 7:30 pm; Also matinees on Sunday November 17 (Panel Discussion following the matinee) and Saturday, November 23 at 2:00 pm. There are two shows on November 23. Runtime is 2.5 hours, including one intermission.

Freed, Distinguished Professor of History Emeritus (ISU), Author of five books about medieval Germany; Deb Bomeli, Dramaturg for The Lion in Winter, retired technical analyst from State Farm; and John D. Poling, MS in History (ISU), teaching History for 21 years at Parkland College, Director – The Lion in Winter
