Free family friendly Ice Breaker Open Skate Festival
returns to the Grossinger Motors Arena

The Grossinger Motors Arena will host the 3rd annual free family friendly Ice Breaker festival on Sunday, August 20th, from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.

“This is always a fun family time for the community,” said Lindsay Danner Bloomington Ice Center Assistant Manager and Skating Director at the City of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation department’s Bloomington Ice Center facility, adding “there will be so much more than just the free open skate.”

“The Ice Breaker event was well received last year and it’s the perfect event to discover ice skating as well as hockey for free for the whole family,” said Michael Hernbrott Bloomington Ice Center Manager in the City of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation department, adding “We have partnered again with the Bloomington Youth Hockey Association, Central Illinois Figure Skating Club, Central Illinois Girls Hockey Association, Central Illinois Courage, Illinois State University Hockey and the McLean County Youth Hockey Association and they will be on site that day to discuss their individual skating clubs”

The South Arena Concourse (Bud Light Lounge) will also be the site of the annual Used Equipment Sale happening Sunday, August 20th from 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

“The entire Bloomington parks team is excited to host this popular community event again,” said Thom Rakestraw Marketing Manager for the City of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation department, adding “The event will be free to all, with skates included, concessions will be available for purchase, games will be happening throughout the event, and we will have the annual used equipment sale going on during the event. Staff will also be hosting Hockey and Learn to Skate mini lessons so the community can sample those programs.”
