The Community Players Theatre (CPT) is excited to announce the upcoming performance dates for their production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Newsies.

Based on the true story of the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, Newsies follows a group of young children in New York City as they fight for fair wages and better working conditions. Featuring a catchy score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, Newsies is a high-energy musical that will have audiences cheering.

“I’m thrilled to be directing this show about the empowerment of the Newsies in 1899, who were just poor kids struggling to survive on pennies a day,” says Director Marcia Weiss. “Together they took down the publishing giants Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer, got themselves a fair deal, and paved the way for the child labor laws that were to come. The music is infectious, the dancing spectacular, and the story that this musical is based upon is true,”

Newsies will run for three weekends at the CPT every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from July 14 through July 30, with a pay-what-you-can preview on Thursday, July 13. For more information about tickets, visit the Community Players Theatre website.

Performances are held at Community Players Theatre at 201 Robinhood Lane in Bloomington. Tickets are $20 for Adults, $18 for Seniors/Students/Active and Retired Military, and $10 for Children 10 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at CommunityPlayers.org, at the box office, or by calling (309) 663-2121.
